About NIFTY Midcap 150

The Nifty Midcap 150 Index tracks the performance of 150 mid-sized companies, ranked from 101st to 250th by full market capitalization within the Nifty 500 universe. Launched on April 1, 2016, with a base date of April 1, 2005, the index serves as a benchmark for India’s mid-cap segment. It offers investors exposure to companies that sit between the large-cap and small-cap categories, combining growth potential with relative stability. The index captures the evolving opportunities in India’s mid-sized corporate sector, making it popular for diversified mid-cap investing.

What is NIFTY Midcap 150 Based On?

The Nifty Midcap 150 Index is calculated using the free-float market capitalization of its 150 constituent stocks. Only the shares that are open for public trading are considered. Any shares locked with promoters or unavailable to the public are left out. This approach ensures the index represents the actual investable market value of India’s mid-cap segment. It offers investors a reliable and accessible benchmark to track the performance of mid-cap stocks.

Selection Criteria for Stocks in NIFTY Midcap 150

The process for selecting stocks in the Nifty Midcap 150 works like this:

  3. Securities need to have a full market capitalization of at least 1.5 times that of the last constituent in the index for inclusion.
  4. Stocks are excluded if their rank falls below 275 or if they are removed from the Nifty 500 index.
  5. Newly listed stocks are evaluated using three months of data (instead of six months) for eligibility.
  6. Stocks must meet minimum liquidity and free-float market capitalization requirements to ensure investability.

The Nifty Midcap 150 Index is maintained and managed by NSE Indices Limited, which is a part of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India.
