FAQs

The TAIEX is a market-cap-weighted index. It tracks the real-time price fluctuations of all listed common stocks on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Major technology and semiconductor companies, such as TSMC and MediaTek, play a significant role in driving the index performance due to their substantial market capitalisations.
The TAIEX Index reflects the performance of all the companies that are listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. It is an indicator of the equity market of Taiwan and the investors' sentiment to various stocks that reflect the overall trends in the market and the economic health of Taiwan.
The TAIEX Index is calculated using a market capitalisation-weighted method. The index compares the total market value of all listed common stocks on the Taiwan Stock Exchange to a base period, with adjustments made for corporate actions such as stock splits, dividends, and new listings or delistings.
The TAIEX Index includes all common stocks listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) that meet specific requirements. To be eligible, stocks must be listed on the TWSE, and they cannot be preferred shares, shares under special trading methods, or stocks listed for less than one month. The Taiwan Stock Exchange regularly reviews and updates the index.
The Taiwan Stock Exchange regularly reviews the constituents of the TAIEX Index, while there is no periodic review system. Regular adjustments are made to account for new listings, delistings, and corporate actions.
No, the TAIEX itself cannot be bought directly as it is an index, not a stock. But investors can have exposure to the TAIEX index through ETFs, index funds, or derivatives like futures and options tracking the index. These instruments allow participation in Taiwan's equity market.
Based on recent years, the TAIEX has provided the following annualised returns:
  • 1-Year Return: 20.59%
  • 5-Year Return: 20.17%
The index’s performance reflects both the strength and dynamism of Taiwan’s equity market, driven largely by its world-leading semiconductor and electronics sectors.
Some well-known companies in the TAIEX Index are Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Foxconn, Mediatek, Fubon Financial Holdings, and Delta Electronics. These companies are in the semiconductor, electronics, and financial services sectors. Their dominance in the index reflects Taiwan’s focus on semiconductor technology.
