Margin Trading Facility (MTF) is a feature that lets you borrow funds, as high as 75% of investment, to buy 1000+ stocks.
The working nature of MTF is simple. You as a trader will pay a fraction of the position value while the broker pays the rest.
For eg: If a trader has Rs. 10,000 and broker offers 4X leverage on a particular stock, it means that the trader can buy stock worth Rs. 40,000 with stock broker funding Rs. 30,000. The trader pays interest on the borrowed sum.
Margin Trading is a good option for those traders that who wish to benefit from short term price fluctuations while facing shortage of funds.
The holding of stocks in MTF varies from brokers to brokers. At Dhan, you can hold the securities for unlimited number of days.
MTF benefit is only for investment purpose and not for trading. Dhan has intraday margin options separately.
- Take large positions
- Increases profit
- Eliminates the issue of capital deficit
Much like any other margin-oriented feature, MTF carries its own set of risks. Since there is leverage involved, there's the risk of amplifying loss. Moreover, if a trader fails to maintain appropriate margins, their MTF position may be liquidated.

- Authorize MTF order before 9 PM (on the day of buying).
