Crisil and ICRA Reaffirm Vedanta's Credit Ratings Following Short-Seller Report
Rating agencies Crisil and ICRA have reaffirmed their credit ratings for Vedanta, maintaining confidence in the mining company's business stability and financial performance. ICRA reaffirmed its long-term rating at AA for Vedanta, while Crisil maintained its AAA rating for Hindustan Zinc and AA rating for Vedanta. Crisil noted it conducted an independent evaluation after a recent short-seller report and found no adverse reaction from lenders or investors. The company's leverage ratio improved to 2.5x in FY 2025 from 3.2x in FY 2024, with ICRA highlighting the group's commitment to debt reduction and strong profitability in aluminum and zinc operations. This follows allegations from US short-seller Viceroy Research claiming Vedanta was 'financially unsustainable,' which the company dismissed as 'selective misinformation and baseless allegations.'
JSW Steel's 50 MT Capacity Target Unaffected by Supreme Court Order on BPSL Acquisition
JSW Steel confirmed its expansion plans remain on track despite a Supreme Court order setting aside the acquisition of Bhushan Steel and Power Ltd. through the insolvency process. Joint MD and CEO Jayant Acharya stated that BPSL was not included in the brownfield expansion calculations for the company's 50 million tonnes capacity target by 2030-31. JSW Steel has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court regarding the BPSL case. The company had acquired BPSL in 2019 for nearly Rs 20,000 crore under the insolvency process, with plans to ramp up its capacity from the current 4.5 MT to 5 MT. BPSL, located in Odisha's Jharsuguda, recorded crude steel production capacity of 3.38 million tonnes. The Supreme Court has directed status quo on NCLT proceedings until the review petition is decided.
