Iveco Nears Dual Sale: Defence Unit to Leonardo, Commercial Business to Tata Motors
Iveco Group is close to finalizing deals to sell its defence unit to Leonardo SpA and its commercial trucking business to Tata Motors. The transactions could be announced when Iveco reports earnings, though negotiations could still face delays. Leonardo's bid of approximately €1.6 billion for the defence unit satisfies Italian government requirements to keep the business domestically controlled. The sale would allow Tata Motors to strengthen its European commercial vehicle operations and enhance its design capabilities for European markets. This move is part of the Agnelli family's strategy to diversify away from automotive into sectors like healthcare, luxury goods, and technology. Iveco shares have nearly doubled in value this year, bringing the company's valuation to around €5 billion.
