Trafigura Forecasts India's Oil Demand Growth to Surpass China's This Year
Trafigura Group predicts India's oil demand growth will exceed China's underlying gains this year, excluding China's strategic stockpiling activities. Chief Economist Saad Rahim noted that Indian demand growth is driven by urbanization and rising incomes, while China faces slowing crude consumption growth outside petrochemicals. China's overall consumption has been supported by stockpile builds of approximately 200,000 barrels per day in recent months, helping maintain global crude prices as OPEC+ restored production capacity. Gunvor Group's Frederic Lasserre highlighted that China's strategic petroleum reserve accumulation is unlikely sustainable long-term and may not absorb future market surplus. Looking ahead, analysts see limited clear drivers for global demand growth despite increasing supply, with next year's demand growth projected at just under one million barrels per day, raising concerns about market absorption capacity.
S&P Global Predicts Brent Crude to Drop to $55 per Barrel by Year End
S&P Global expects dated Brent crude oil prices to decline to approximately $55 per barrel by the end of the year. Dave Ernsberger, Co-President of S&P Global Commodity Insights, made this forecast at the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference. He indicated that prices could fall even lower if several factors align: continued flow of Russian oil into the market, cessation of stock building, increased commercial inventory storage, and widening contango spreads creating a massive supply surplus.
Sovereign Gold Bond Series VI Doubles Investor Returns in Five Years
The Sovereign Gold Bond 2020-21 Series VI, issued at ₹5,117 per gram on September 8, 2020, reached a premature redemption price of ₹10,610 per unit, effectively doubling investors' money in five years. The Reserve Bank of India set this redemption price based on average gold prices from September 3-5, 2025. Investors who exited during the September 6, 2025 redemption window also earned 2.5% annual interest throughout the holding period. The exit window has now closed, requiring remaining investors to wait for the next redemption date or hold until eight-year maturity. The SGB scheme, launched in 2015 to reduce physical gold demand, has mobilized 146.96 tonnes of gold worth ₹72,275 crore through 67 tranches. Minister Pankaj Chaudhary indicated that rising gold prices due to geopolitical tensions have increased government borrowing costs, with new tranches under review pending cost analysis.
