Indian Markets Fall for Third Consecutive Session Led by Kotak Mahindra Bank Decline
Indian benchmark equity indices declined for the third consecutive session, with the NSE Nifty 50 falling 156.1 points (0.63%) to close at 24,680.9 and the BSE Sensex dropping 572.07 points (0.7%) to 80,891.02. The decline was primarily driven by weak first-quarter results from Kotak Mahindra Bank, which was among the biggest laggards along with Bajaj Finance and Wipro. Of the 50 Nifty stocks, 33 declined, resulting in a market capitalization loss of nearly Rs 15,500 crore for the blue-chip pack. Most sectors ended in negative territory except for selective pharma and FMCG stocks, with Nifty Realty and Nifty Defence experiencing the steepest declines. The broader market also underperformed, with BSE MidCap falling 0.7% and SmallCap losing 1.3%. Market breadth favored sellers with 2,803 stocks declining versus 1,224 advancing on the BSE.
KTM Resumes Full Production in Austria After Bajaj Auto's ₹7,200 Crore Investment
KTM has resumed full production at its Mattighofen plant in Austria after suspending operations in late April 2025 due to component shortages and liquidity problems. Bajaj Auto announced a ₹7,200 crore funding infusion on May 22, including a debt package to ensure business continuity. The investment was made through Bajaj Auto's wholly owned subsidiary BAIHBV, as part of Bajaj's plan to become KTM's majority shareholder. KTM had entered self-administration in late 2024 following financial crisis and declining global sales. An Austrian court concluded the company's restructuring process in June. The Mattighofen plant previously produced over 210,000 units in 2023, with total European production exceeding 380,000 units. KTM is now preparing to restart production of motorcycles, spare parts, accessories, and apparel across all sites. Additionally, KTM ended its distribution agreement for CFMoto and Zeeho electric two-wheelers in several European markets effective June 1, 2025, though the manufacturing partnership continues.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Shares Drop 6% Following Disappointing Quarterly Results

The bank's Net Interest Margin declined over 30 basis points year-over-year, exceeding analyst expectations of a 20 basis point drop.
