A credit rating indicates the creditworthiness of the NCD/issuer as assessed by a registered credit rating agency. For example, an issue may carry a rating such as AAA, AA, A, etc., depending on the rating agency's scale.
A higher rating generally indicates a relatively stronger assessment of the issuer's ability to meet its debt obligations, but a rating is not a guarantee that the issuer will not default. The applicable rating and rating rationale should be checked in the issue documents. SEBI maintains a regulatory framework for non-convertible securities and credit-rating agencies.
