Corporate Actions
Bonus, mergers, stock splits and more
Record Date: The record date is when a company checks its records to identify the shareholders eligible for a corporate action. Shareholders holding shares in their demat accounts on the record date are entitled to benefits such as rights shares, bonus shares, stock splits, dividends, etc.
Ex-Date: The ex-date is the day on which a stock starts trading without the benefit of the corporate action. The ex-date and record date are typically the same for all corporate actions due to the T+1 settlement cycle. Before the ex-date, a stock trades with the benefits of the corporate action (cum-benefit). After the ex-date, it trades without these benefits (ex-benefit).
