Settlement Holiday
What is a settlement holiday?
When you buy stocks using MTF (Margin Trading Facility) a day before a settlement holiday, those stocks will not immediately appear in your portfolio or holdings. They will reflect on the next working day once the settlement is complete.
For example:
You bought ABC stock under MTF on Monday, 7th April.
Tuesday, 8th April is a settlement holiday (banks and clearing systems are closed).
➡️ Your ABC stock will show up in your portfolio on Wednesday, 9th April.
Why this happens:
On settlement holidays, while trading is allowed, the back-end processing systems like banks or clearing corporations are closed. Since MTF holdings depend on these systems for final settlement, your stocks will only reflect once the settlement is done.
📝 Note: Knowing this can help you better plan your MTF trades around holidays and weekends.
