About Compare US Stocks

What Can You See on the Compare US Stocks Page?

The Compare US Stocks page gives investors a simple way to evaluate multiple US-listed companies side by side. Visitors can access the following information without logging in:

  • Side-by-side analysis: Compare up to three US stocks at once across key financial and fundamental parameters.
  • Fundamental metrics: Review Market Cap, P/E Ratio, PEG Ratio, ROE, ROCE, and EPS in one view.
  • Financial statements: Analyse quarterly income statements and yearly balance sheets to assess a company’s financial position.
  • Historical performance: Compare 1-month, 3-month, 1-year, 3-year and 5-year returns, along with historical high and low prices.

Investors can even invest directly in the stocks compared by logging in to their Dhan account.

What is Compare US Stocks?

Making investment decisions can be challenging when two companies appear similar, especially when comparing direct competitors such as Apple and Microsoft or Nvidia and Intel. Dhan’s Compare US Stocks tool brings key price, valuation, performance and financial data together in one side-by-side view.

On Compare US Stocks, investors can compare up to three US-listed companies across metrics such as price data, key metrics, return history, historical performance, income statement figures, balance sheet data, and cash flow. Once they have completed their comparison, they can explore the relevant stock and invest fractionally from India, starting at $1.

Reading the Comparison Metrics

The comparison table is organised into seven sections, covering everything from price and valuation to financial statements and cash flow. Here is what each section contains:

  • Price Details: Displays the last traded price, 1-day change %, 52-week high, and 52-week low for each stock. This helps investors see where the current price stands relative to its recent trading range.
  • Key Metrics: Features core valuation and profitability ratios such as market capitalisation (in millions of USD), PE ratio, PEG ratio, PB ratio, ROE, ROCE, EPS, and sector classification. Together, these metrics provide context on valuation and how efficiently companies use capital to generate returns.
  • Returns: Shows side-by-side percentage returns across five time horizons such as 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years. It helps investors gauge which stock has performed better across different market cycles, and whether recent outperformance reflects a long-term trend or a short-term move.
  • Historical Performance: This section helps investors compare the current price relative to the historical high and low price range across 3-month, 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year timeframes.
  • Income Statement: Shows quarterly results, including revenue, expenses, EBITDA, profit before tax, and net profit. These figures help investors compare the scale and profitability of different companies.
  • Balance Sheet: Displays total assets and total liabilities from the annual balance sheet, helping investors assess the company’s financial position and balance-sheet strength.
  • Cash Flow: Shows operating, investing, and financing cash flows, helping investors understand how companies generate and use cash.

How to Use the Compare US Stocks

Here’s how investors can use this comparison tool:

  • Adding stocks: Click the Add button next to Stock 1, Stock 2, or Stock 3, then search for a US-listed company by name or ticker symbol. You can add up to three stocks to the same comparison.
  • Switching stocks: Replace a stock by clicking its slot and searching for another company. The comparison table then updates with the selected stock’s data.
  • Frequently compared pairs: Quick-access links are available for popular matchups such as Apple vs Microsoft, Nvidia vs Intel, Amazon vs Walmart, and Tesla vs Ford Motor. These can be useful if you want to start with a familiar comparison.
  • Investing directly: After comparing, investors can start investing from $1 without switching platforms or opening a separate interface.

Key Terms to Know

  • PE Ratio (Price-to-Earnings): Compares a company’s share price with its earnings per share, indicating how much investors are paying for each dollar of earnings.
  • PEG Ratio (Price/Earnings to Growth): The P/E ratio divided by the company’s expected earnings growth rate. It adjusts for growth and is more useful when comparing two companies with different growth rates.
  • PB Ratio (Price-to-Book): The current share price divided by the book value per share. It measures how much investors are paying relative to the company’s net asset value.
  • EPS (Earnings Per Share): Calculated by taking the company’s net income, subtracting any preferred stock dividends, and dividing the total by the number of outstanding shares. It is used to compare earnings on a per-share basis across different companies.
  • ROE (Return on Equity): Net profit as a percentage of shareholders’ equity. It measures how efficiently a company uses its equity capital to generate profit.
  • ROCE (Return on Capital Employed): It shows how effectively the capital is used to produce earnings, and takes into account both equity and debt capital.
  • EBITDA: Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation. It is a measure of the company’s core profitability.
  • 52-Week High / Low: The highest and lowest prices at which a stock has traded over the past 52 weeks. These levels help investors put the current price into context.

  • Up to three stocks simultaneously: The tool supports comparisons between three companies at once, allowing investors to compare in detail before making an investment decision.

Things to Know Before Acting on Comparison Data

Before using the comparison data to make an investment decision, keep the following factors in mind:

  • Exchange rate fluctuations: For Indian investors, INR returns are affected not only by the stock’s performance but also by movements in the USD/INR exchange rate.
  • TCS on LRS Remittances: Under the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), remittances above ₹10 lakh in a financial year attract a 20% TCS. This is not a permanent expense; it can be adjusted against the overall tax liability of the investors in the ITR filing in India.
  • Dividends are also taxed in the US: If an investor has submitted Form W-8BEN, the dividends received from US stock investments are subject to a 25% US withholding tax under the DTAA tax treaty; otherwise, 30% is deducted at source. In India, these dividends are taxed at the investor’s applicable income tax slab rate, and investors can claim the 25% already withheld in the US as a Foreign Tax Credit (FTC).
  • Returns do not indicate future performance: Historical return figures across 1-month to 5-year periods show what has already happened, not what will happen next.
  • Prices shown are delayed by 15 minutes: The last traded prices on this page are not live. Log in to Dhan to view real-time prices before making any investment decision based on the current market price.
